Sony/ATV has made its entire catalogue available online, claiming to be the first company to do so.

The catalogue, which also includes EMI Music Publishing, can be accessed via Sony/ATV’s website.

Martin Bandier, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, said: ‘As the world's leading music publisher we want to ensure that existing users, prospective licensees and those with a need to access our extensive song list are provided with that capability.

‘We are thrilled to announce today that the company is taking the next step and offering a greater level of transparency by enabling our global catalog to be accessible upon request.’

David Israelite, president and CEO of the National Music Publishers' Association, added: ‘I am pleased to see Sony/ATV is taking a leading role by making its entire catalog available. This is an important step in making the licensing process even more transparent and one which I fully endorse."

According to Sony/ATV, songs can be easily searched via the site with authorized users able to find works using song name, alternative titles and composer, as well as other information including country of origin.

The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and the Rolling Stones as well as current chart-toppers such as Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, P!nk, Taylor Swift and Pharrell Williams.
