Sony revives iconic Walkman brand

Sony Corporation has announced plans to launch a new version of its iconic Walkman music player.

The new device, which was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in LA, is expected to go on sale across Europe within the next few months.

Sony said the new model, called NW-ZX2, will come with 256gb of in-built memory, plus carry an added card to boost storage capacity.

In a move out of step with the rest of the industry, the player will take LDAC codec format music files rather than the standard mp3.

Sony’s original cassette Walkman was launched in 1979 and sold over 220 million devices.
