The Social in the West End of London is to host a Morrissey day to celebrate the publication of the singer’s new book, Autobiography.

Autobiography is due to be published by Penguin Classics tomorrow (17 October) and the venue will be inviting fans with a copy to come down and use it as a temporary reading room.

Fans of the singer and one-time Smiths frontman will be able to take advantage of free tea and hear a specially selected playlist if they bring a copy.

In a post on its website, the venue said: ‘The Social will be offering quiet, comfortable space in the West End for anyone wanting to skive off work and while away the day reading the book.

‘There will be free tea (from Yorkshire not Lancashire) and two for one on foaming nut Brown Ale (from Sonnet 43 brewery in Durham) for anyone brandishing a copy of the book (or, at a real push, a Kindle edition).’

Since the Smiths disbanded in the 1987, Morrissey has been a solo artist for twenty-six years, during which time he has had three number one albums in the UK.

In other related-book news, we are currently offering one lucky M reader the chance to win a copy of Lawrence Watson’s book of rare and unseen photographs of The Smiths.
