Björk is launching a new series of remixes based on her recent Biophilia project, involving artists and producers including Matthew Herbert, These New Puritans and Hudson Mohawke. It coincides with the release of the new Hollow video, showing footage from inside Björk's body.
The remix project will yield eight separate 12-inch single releases. Alongside Herbert, King Cannibal, Alva Noto, 16 Bit, El Guincho and Current Value will also contribute.
The project opens with Current Value’s re-working of Biophilia album tracks Crystalline and Solstice, available from 2 April. The others will follow every two weeks.
Meanwhile, Björk has released a new video for the original version of Hollow. Director Drew Barry described it as a ‘powers-of-ten exploration of the microscopic and molecular landscapes inside Björk's body’.
The animation was constructed from molecular models of DNA and proteins gathered from scientific data including X-ray crystallography. You can watch it below.
Biophilia was a multi-layered, multi-dimensional exploration of the relationship between music, technology and nature. It was released in album form last autumn on One Little Indian. It also became a ground-breaking smartphone app, series of performances and education initiatives. Read our exclusive interview with Björk here.
