As previously reported, the Mercury-style gong will hand over £20,000 to the Scottish band deemed to have released the best album of 2011, while nine runners up will receive £1,000 each.
Speaking about the awards, Stewart Henderson from Scottish Music Industry Association said: ‘This award has the potential to be about so much more than just one winning album: it’s about fostering a greater sense of solidarity within Scotland’s music industry; it’s about the album’s enduring relevance as an art form and it’s about reinforcing the importance of retail and the invaluable role Scotland’s music fans play in sustaining the creativity of our artists.’
