The awards, now in its fourth year, celebrate the best in alternative Scottish music with a shortlist of winners selected by the figureheads of the local scene which is then put to a public vote. Last year saw performances from Bwani Junction and Fatherson and was hosted by BBC Introducing's Ally McRae.

A launch event is taking place on Thursday 7 February at Bar Bloc Glasgow from 9pm. Performing at the event will be previous nominees and winner Alan McKim, The Little Kicks and TeKlo. Tickets are available from Tickets Scotland.

SAMA 2013 is running in association with Glasgow's Gorbals Sound recording studio, just south of the River Clyde. Studio Manager Paul Quinn said: 'We're really thrilled and excited to be sponsoring SAMA's as we see it as a great opportunity to connect with the grassroots of Scottish Music and it's a great window for these young, up and coming artists to put themselves'
Founder and Creative Director of SAMA, Richy Muirhead, added: 'The shortlist of nominees are excellent. I think this is a great opportunity for new and old music fans to hear an eclectic bill of artists from all over Scotland. Its an exciting time for the SAMAs going into year four, the music scene here is very much alive!'
