The Rolling Stones collected two prizes at the 2013 NME Awards almost 50 years after their first appearance at the ceremony.
The veteran rockers, represented at the ceremony at London’s Troxy Theatre by guitarist Ronnie Wood, were presented with the gongs for best live act and best music film for Crossfire Hurricane.
Other notable winners included Scotland’s Biffy Clyro who received the accolade for best British band and Johnny Marr who was awarded the prize for Godlike Genius.
Elsewhere Foals won best track for Inhaler, the first single from their third album Holy Fire, and Florence Welch also scooped two prizes – one for best female solo artist and the other for best dancefloor anthem on her Sweet Nothing collaboration with Calvin Harris.
Mike Williams, NME Editor, said: ‘I don't think there's ever been a stronger and more diverse list of nominees, so all the winners should be insanely proud to have come out on top. The NME Awards remains the most rock'n'roll event of the year, and this year has been one of the finest in NME's proud 60 year history. Onwards and upwards for 2014.’
More than ten million votes were cast by NME readers to feed into the list of winners.
