Róisín Murphy is to receive AIM’s Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at a ceremony this September.
The one-time Moloko singer and soloist is to be recognised as an innovative singer, writer and performer whose extensive body of work continues to push boundaries.
In 2015, eight years on from her previous solo album, Murphy returned with the Mercury Prize-nominated album Hairless Toys – her highest charting album to date.
She’s now preparing to release follow-up Take Her Up To Monto this Friday, which is already receiving plaudits from critics and occupying the BBC 6Music playlist.
Murphy’s career began as one half of eclectic electronic pop duo Moloko in the nineties. They became a household name with hit single Sing it Back at the start of the millenium, cementing their success with third album Things to Make and Do, which spawning their biggest chart hit The Time is Now.
The AIM Independent Music Awards 2016 returns to The Brewery in Clerkenwell, London, on 6 September. Tickets are on sale from www.musicindie.com/awards
