Robin Osterley is to leave Making Music after 16 years as the organisation’s chief executive officer.

According to the voluntary organisation, which looks after 3,000 amateur music organisations in the UK, Robin has done a great deal of work to help transform its public and corporate image.

A new chief executive is expected to be appointed at some stage in 2014 although Barbara Eifler, head of Member Services and Volunteering, will become acting director in the interim.

Robin said: ‘This has been the most incredible journey for me, and I have loved every minute of my job. It is absolutely the right time to leave, both for me and for the organisation, and I am totally confident that Making Music will go from strength to strength under its new leadership.

'I am delighted that the voluntary sector is in such rude health, with singing and playing remaining so important in people’s lives, with many music clubs continuing to thrive, and with music education still remaining a vital part of most schools’ work. I wish Making Music every success in the future and look forward to seeing voluntary music making continue its upward curve.’

Other changes include Ralph Kennedy becoming head of Operations and Development while Workineh Asres will remain head of Finance at the body.
