Robert Ashcroft to cycle for Music in Hospitals charity

On 10 June, the ‘Cycle for Music’ team, including PRS for Music's Robert Ashcroft, will take on the Dragon Ride - a 206km road cycle challenge over the hills and valleys of South Wales with over 3200m of climbs, in support of Music in Hospitals.

On 10 June, the ‘Cycle for Music’ team will take on the Dragon Ride - a 206km road cycle challenge over the hills and valleys of South Wales with over 3200m of climbs.

The team consists of PRS for Music Chief Executive Robert Ashcroft, along with PRS for Music employee Nick Toolan, MCPS board member Gez Orakwusi (Sony/ATV Music Publishing UK Limited) and Karsten Dyherberg Neilson, Managing Director of NCB, who have taken on the challenge in support of the charity Music in Hospitals.

Established in 1948, Music in Hospitals uses live music to improve the quality of life of adults and children with all kinds of illnesses and disabilities in hospitals, hospices, day care centres, special needs schools, and nursing and residential homes around the UK.  Music in Hospitals has grown to be the leading provider of live music across the healthcare spectrum.

The work of Music in Hospitals

Music in Hospitals arranges live music for all kinds of healthcare centres throughout the UK. Concerts can take place in hospital wards, day rooms, lounges, halls and by the bedsides of patients too ill to be moved.

In 2010 alone the charity held 4,872 concerts, including:

  • 2,005 concerts for older people and people with dementia

  • 509 concerts for people with mental health problems and long-term conditions

  • 141 concerts for people with life limiting conditions

  • 158 concerts for people with learning and physical disabilities

  • 155 concerts for children and young people

  • 193 concerts for adults in general hospital care
