The Royal Northern College of Music's Session Orchestra has announced its latest showcase event.

Described as 'an inspiring, high-energy 40-piece ensemble performing popular music repertoire conceived for the larger symphonic palette', the RNCM Session Orchestra will stage its Original Artists Edition concert this Saturday (15 June).

Promising an 'unrivalled evening in the city' at the RNCM Theatre in Manchester, the event will feature 'the next generation of artists and their original music with live orchestra'.

Students from the college's renowned music department — whose alumni include Porij, Larkins and Lucy Deakin — will perform on the night, with the line-up comprising Freddy Gillmore, She’s Mine, May Payne and Grete Eitmantyte.

Each artist will perform a 20-minute set of original music, with fully orchestrated versions created by themselves or in collaboration with student arrangers.

A judging panel comprising the RNCM's Principal and Deputy Principal (Performance & Programmes), along with two music industry professionals, will decide on the night who will take home a prestigious Gold Medal. The college's highest performance achievement honour, an additional £5,000 prize will be awarded to the Gold Medal winner to further develop their work.

RNCM Session Orchestra: Original Artists Edition will take place between 7pm and 9:30pm, with tickets ranging from £10-£15. You can find out more about the event by heading here.
