Keith Emerson, keyboard player with prog rock legends Emerson Lake and Palmer, has sadly passed away.
Keith’s management made the announcement, stating that the musician had ‘died during the night of 10-11 March 2016 at his home in Santa Monica, California, aged 71’.
News reports have said that the keyboard player took his own life.
Commenting on the death of his band mate, drummer and percussionist Carl Palmer said: ‘I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson.
‘Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz.’
Emerson Lake and Palmer were one of the foremost prog groups of the seventies, rising to prominence after a legendary performance at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970.
They went on to enjoy success with their albums, Pictures at an Exhibition (1971), Trilogy (1972), and Brain Salad Surgery (1973).
The group disbanded at the end of the seventies before reuniting to tour again during the nineties and release more music.
