Jackie Trent, British songwriter of hits for Petula Clark and Frank Sinatra and the theme for Australian soap opera Neighbours, has sadly passed away aged 74.
A statement was published on the songwriter’s website to say she died in a Menorca hospital after a long illness.
Her husband Colin and children Michelle and Darren were by her bedside.
Jackie was born Yvonne Burgess in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire in 1940.
She topped the charts in 1965 with her rendition of Where Are You Now, a song she co-wrote with her first husband, composer Tony Hatch.
Jackie continued to enjoy great musical success penning more than 400 songs. Those numbers included hits for a range of artists including Des O’Connor, Val Doonican and Dean Martin. Along with Tony, she penned Stoke City's 1972 League Cup final song We'll Be With You.
The pair also wrote the theme tune to the hit soap opera, Neighbours, while they were living in Australia.
Jackie separated from Tony in 1995 before eventually divorcing in 2002. She married her second husband Colin Gregory in November 2005 and moved to Spain. She is survived by her husband and two children.
