In-store activity and street parties have been planned in conjunction with the country’s 200-strong independent record store community, and boast performances from the likes of Paul Weller, Frank Turner, The Wire, Steve Mason and Smoke Fairies.

Weller will play an intimate gig for an audience of 300 at Rough Trade East, London, while The Wedding Present will perform for punters at Truck Store in Oxford. Avalanche in Edinburgh will host Glasvegas and Admiral Fallow, while The Twang are playing Head in Leamington Spa.

Vinyl destination Berwick Street, Soho, will be transformed into a mini music festival between 12pm and 7pm, with seven acts scheduled to perform live on a stage curated by the Sister Ray record shop. Round the corner on Broadwick Street, Sounds of the Universe is hosting a block party with DJs and stalls.

Weller said of Record Store Day: ‘There's so few record shops left that we should all treasure those remaining. I'm also looking forward to playing at Rough Trade East, it’s going to be loud and hot!’

Meanwhile, UK co-ordinator Spencer Hickman said: ‘Record Store Day always throws up something weird and wonderful every year and 2013 is no exception. That is why the 20th April will be a real celebration of culture and of course there is no better place to celebrate than inside an independent record store.’
