RAYE made BRIT Awards history on Saturday night (2 March) by taking home a record-breaking six awards.
The London artist had already set a new record for the most BRIT nominations by a single artist in any one year, and was also honoured prior to Saturday's ceremony with the prize for Songwriter of the Year for 2024.
RAYE then won five more awards on the night — Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and R&B Act — to take her total number of BRITs wins to six, beating the previous on-the-night awards record of four held by Harry Styles (2023), Adele (2016) and Blur (1995).
Speaking to the BRITs audience at The O2 in London after winning Album of the Year for My 21st Century Blues, RAYE said: 'I’m ugly crying on national television! I’m so proud of this album, I’m in love with music — all I ever wanted to be was an artist.'
Other notable winners on the night included Dua Lipa (Pop Act), Jungle (Group of the Year) and CASISDEAD (Hip hop / Grime / Rap Act).
Three quarters of this year's BRIT Award winners featured women and non-binary people, while over half of this year’s nominees featured women — supported by category changes for 2024 that saw the BRITs extend the number of nominees in the Artist of the Year categories from five to 10, and the introduction of a new R&B genre award.
