Brighton blues/hip-hop singer-songwriter Rory Graham (aka Rag n Bone Man) has been named the BRITs Critics Choice winner for 2017.
He follows in the footsteps of previous winners Adele, Florence + the Machine, Sam Smith, James Bay and last year’s winner Jack Garratt.
Graham beat rising pop artist Dua Lipa and electronic act Anne-Marie to take the prize.
He said: ‘I thought they had made a mistake. I was up against two pop giants. It’s bloody brilliant! I’m crazy happy. Proper massive grin.’
Rag n Bone Man’s popularity has rocketed since the release of his single Human earlier this year, which was sung by X Factor contestant Emily Middlemas last month.
Although he’s been making music for over a decade, it was Graham’s signing to Warner/Chappell Publishing in 2013, and subsequent deal with the Sony Music label, which has helped pave the way for his success.
