Sheffield band Pulp are to receive a PRS for Music Heritage Award at the Leadmill, Sheffield to mark 35 years since the band first performed there in the 1980s.
The award will take place on Monday 4 May at the iconic venue as it celebrates its 35th year in business.
Pulp, led by frontman Jarvis Cocker, first gigged at the Leadmill on August 16, 1980, performing tracks in the electronic new wave Sheffield sound of the time.
The group went on to enjoy enormous success in the UK and worldwide, selling millions of albums and playing sold out gigs, including Glastonbury in 1995, where Common People became a Britpop anthem during their headline set.
The Leadmill’s 35th anniversary celebrations will see BBC6 Music’s Steve Lamacq broadcasting live, performances from the Mystery Jets and Slow Club as well as a birthday club night headlined by Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey’s Desperate Soundsystem.
The PRS for Music Heritage Award was established in 2009 to recognise important live music venues where artists launched their careers.
Previous recipients include Elton John, Blur, Soul II Soul, Faithless, Spandau Ballet and Queen.
