PRS for Music has voiced its support for the second annual Lennon Bermuda Peace Day Concert taking place on 21 September.

This year’s event is hosted by Jimmy Keys with a line up paying tribute to the songwriting of Bob Marley and The Beatles.

The Fab Faux, the Splashband from Barbados, the Bermuda School of Music and the Glass Onion Band and Deric Dyer are among the acts on the bill.

Karen Buse, director of International from PRS for Music, said: ‘John Lennon is inarguably one of the greatest songwriters and indeed PRS for Music members that the world has known.

‘We know he loved Bermuda and it is such a privilege to be involved with this great concert where so many international and local musicians play side by side. It is vital the live music industry is nurtured so it can go on producing enormous talents like Marley and Lennon and Lennon Bermuda Peace Day Concert is a great ambassador for the important role music plays.’

The concert is inspired by a trip John Lennon made to the island in June 1980. He sailed to Bermuda on a yacht for a holiday with the experience helping him break a five year writer's block and complete 25 songs. The resulting comeback album was entitled Double Fantasy.

The event raises money for Ride the Wave, a foundation created to sponsor musical artists, assisting children with music development and donating instruments to the schools.
