PRS for Music has announced two panels at the upcoming Brighton Music Conference (BMC) to explore digital music licensing, dance music royalties and online piracy.

Both sessions will take place on Thursday 14 April with the first, PRS for Music in Conversation kicking off at 2pm.

The panel, chaired by PRS for Music’s new dance music manager Ashley Howard, will explore the society’s recent digital action, including its litigation situation and subsequent licensing of SoundCloud.

It will also cover the society’s newly launched anti-piracy system and its recent exploration into sound recognition technology.

Other speakers from the organisation include Simon Bourn (head of litigation, enforcement & anti-piracy) and Tim Arber (head of membership support).

Greg Marshall, head of membership at the Association for Electronic Music will complete the panel.

The second panel, which takes place at 5pm and is entitled Music Publishing and Collecting Societies Explained, aims to shed light on the administration of royalties for recording artists, composers and producers.

Howard will be joined by artist Alex Banks, Hannah Simmonds (Toolroom Records’ head of publishing and Sebastian Spring (head of publishing at SUISA.

Howard said: Both panels at BMC will really get into how PRS interacts with dance and electronic music, but will also cover the nitty-gritty of collection societies and music publishing in a broader context.

‘The PRS in Conversation panel will be particularly interesting for the audiences at BMC as it gives PRS a unique opportunity to discuss some of our activities that are especially relevant to those operating within the sphere of dance music. Not one to miss!’
