PRS for Music is calling on a wide selection of its full membership to stand in the upcoming PRS directors’ ballot.

PRS directors play a crucial role in the governance of the collecting society and are expected to commit a certain amount of time per year to the job.

To be eligible, applicants must be both a full member and have received nominations from at least 10 other full members.

Simon Darlow, BASCA chairman, said: ‘I enjoy enormously being able to represent songwriters’ interests on the PRS board. It's so important that other songwriters and composers step forward to help protect copyright, which is constantly under threat.’

‘I've enjoyed getting to know an international network of fellow songwriters who are committed to protecting the interests of copyright and authors’ rights, and making sure their collecting societies understand their point of view. Being on the board of PRS as a songwriter has enabled me to speak on behalf of songwriters and composers in parliaments around the world which I'd never expected when I stood for election but thoroughly enjoy.’

Edwin Cox, managing and creative director at West One Music Group, said: ‘I see that rights management, licensing and our society’s role is evolving. I put myself forward for the board because I wanted to ensure that companies such as West One Music Group - and the community of fantastic talent it represents - has a voice and can offer its global knowledge at the heart of this evolution. I want to help shape the future of our society and the way it develops in response to the various external challenges and opportunities.

‘My message to anyone thinking of standing is - go for it! If you think you can make a contribution and you have something to say, then you should definitely get involved.’

Only associate and full members may vote in the ballot, which takes place in April. The Electoral Reform Services will directly contact all members that are eligible to vote.

To apply, please submit a completed nomination form and supporting documents to the PRS company secretary before 17:00 on Thursday 27 February.
