PRS Foundation, the UK's leading funder of new music, received the Outstanding Contribution to Charity Award at last night's Music Week Awards ceremony.

Held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, the awards recognise excellence within the music industry and were launched to raise standards across the industry by showcasing top class performance and innovation.

The winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Charity Award is chosen by the Music Week team and given to a charity that they feel 'has made a significant impact within the eligibility period, and has worked with the music industry to facilitate this.'

PRS Foundation’s chief executive, Vanessa Reed collected the award on behalf of the organisation and said: 'We at PRS Foundation are truly honoured to be given this award and to be recognised by Music Week for the charitable work we do in enabling UK artists, songwriters and composers from all backgrounds to fulfil their potential.

'We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for PRS for Music’s unwavering support as our major donor, our new partnership with PPL and the collaborations we’ve developed across the industry with Spotify, PledgeMusic and BBC Music to name but a few.

'Recent research has revealed that only 18 percent of those working in music and the performing arts are from a working-class background and the diverse next generation of songwriters and artists that we’re funding isn’t fully reflected by the industry. I hope this award will raise awareness of the crucial support we’re providing and pave the way for new collaborations and partnerships which could benefit us all.'

Music Week’s editor, Mark Sutherland added: 'We are delighted to be able to bestow this thoroughly deserved award on the PRS Foundation at this year’s Music Week Awards. Diversity, alongside the encouragement of new artists and songwriters are two themes that are incredibly important to Music Week and the music industry, and the contribution that PRS Foundation makes on these fronts is unparalleled.'

The awards were attended by over 1,200 guests ranging from top executives to pop star Dua Lipa.

Elsewhere, the Record Company Of The Year and Artist Marketing Campaign awards went to Atlantic Records, following its global success story with Ed Sheeran in 2017. Wired PR was awarded PR campaign for its work with Stormzy, while Rough Trade won Independent Retailer.
