The PRS for Music Foundation has pledged its commitment to helping close the gender gap in music by pitching a debate on the subject for SXSW 2017.

The proposed panel will gather leading lights from the UK music industry to explore the obstacles female artists and industry professionals face in the field.

Vanessa Reed, the foundation’s executive director, will lead the session, alongside Mistajam (Mistajam Media), urban artist Lady Leshurr and Andreea Magdalina (She Said So).

The foundation is urging people to vote for the proposed panel, which, if popular enough, will be programmed at the international music convention and showcase in Texas next March.

In June, Reed wrote a comment for the Huffington Post based on a panel she chaired at Liverpool Sound City entitled Come Together United We Stand.
