Jean Michael Jarre, Javed Akhtar and PRS for Music CEO Robert Ashcroft are among the speakers at this year’s World Creators Summit.

Simon Darlow, songwriter, producer and BACSA chairman, Axel Dauchez, CEO of Deezer and Simon Raymonde, songwriter and Cocteau Twins producer, are just some of the 140 plus industry figures appearing at the event in Washington DC on 4-5 June.

Jean Michael Jarre will deliver a keynote address discussing the role of the artist in today’s copyright debate as part of a bid to encourage creators to protect their rights.

Simon Darlow will appear on 5 June speaking on a panel entitled Collective Management for the 21st century - Transparency, governance and member services. Later that day, Robert Ashcroft will take part in the Copyright + Innovation = Growth? debate.

Hervé Di Rosa, a visual artist and acting president of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), said: ‘It’s great to see more and more artists getting involved in the debate over their rights and how their works are used online, as they are the ones who will be directly affected.

‘Too often, the artist perspective is minimised or lost entirely in today’s discussions on copyright. It is up to the creative community to band together and ask for respect and fair remuneration for the use of their works. One of our goals for the World Creators Summit is to provide a place for them to do so.’

The World Creators Summit is organised by CISAC - read the full line up for the two day event.
