PRS for Music has published a summary of responses from its consultation on the terms of its Popular Music Concerts Tariff.

The tariff, which is applied to ticketed popular music events such as concerts and festivals, was subject to an eight-week consultation earlier this year.

The purpose was to engage with a wide range of live industry sectors, from grassroots to large scale concerts and festivals as well as industry trade bodies, to conduct a comprehensive review of the live music industry.

The consultation received a total of 111 direct responses from across the industry, including PRS for Music members, covering the majority of the live market.

After a detailed review of all consultation responses, the published summary of responses sets out a broad range of views from PRS for Music customers, members and the live music sector.

Paul Clements, commercial director at PRS for Music, said: ‘We thank our customers, members and trade bodies for providing their views and comments throughout the consultation process, the purpose of which was to provide us with additional insight and knowledge into reviewing PRS for Music’s Tariff LP, set by the UK Copyright Tribunal back in 1988.

‘We very much appreciate the input of those who provided considered answers and thought in their responses. It has been a productive process in raising a range of considerations which we will now address in further engagement with the industry. Through collaborative discussions, we aim to determine a tariff that is fit for purpose and recognises the valuable contribution that our songwriters and publishers make to the live music industry.’

PRS for Music will now seek discussions with the sector to define the future approach for licensing live events, anticipating a revised tariff LP to be presented in spring 2016.
