PRS for Music and the Irish Rights Music Organisation (IMRO) have announced the winners of the CultureTECH media writing mentorship.
12 songwriters and composers have been chosen by the two organisations to enter the scheme, which is taking place as part of the CultureTECH festival in Derry-Londonderry 9-15 September.
The participants will be tasked with working together to soundtrack a TV documentary and animation title sequence with the winning piece to be shown on 12 September as part of the festival programme.
Mark Nagurski, CultureTECH festival director, said: ’This is going to be a great addition to our festival line-up. It’s an absolute pleasure to be working with PRS for Music and IMRO, and I anticipate fantastic output from both their memberships, which are bursting with talent.
‘The final showcase event is going to form part of our great music line-up, and I’m sure it’s going to showcase some interesting ideas.’
Shauna Tohill, singer songwriter, added: ‘I am really pleased to have won the place and am looking forward to working with some new musicians on a cool project like this! It will be a fantastic opportunity to network and experience something new.’
The scheme is aimed at promoting new repertoire as well as showcasing new musical opportunities to both songwriters and composers.
