PRS for Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance have come together for a third year to host The Composers Seminar – a free evening of careers advice and networking.

The event, which is aimed at both new and established composers, will gather industry experts to examine the current climate for classical music and the various revenue streams open to composers.

The first panel, Defining Composition, will be led by Dominic Murcott, head of composition at Trinity Laban.

It will explore what it means to be a composer in 2016 and ask how we define classical music.

Alongside Murcott, composers Gary Carpenter, Ayanna Witter Johnson and Harry Escott, plus Catherine Manners (Manners McDade publishers) and Aldeburgh Music’s chief executive Roger Wright will also contribute.

The second panel will be chaired by Harriet Wybor, PRS for Music’s classical account manager.

Entitled Music as a Business, it will discuss how composers can earn a living and maximise potential earnings.

Panellists include Katie Ferguson (unCLASSIFIED), Richard Paine (Faber Music), Mark Pemberton (Association of British Orchestras), Anne Rushton (NMC Recordings) and composer Kemal Yusuf.

Networking and drinks will follow.

The event takes place on 25 October from 6pm to 8pm at the Southbank Centre, London.
