Mike Weatherley MP is using Rock the House - a live music competition, to help highlight to government the value of the nation's creativity and the importance of protecting Intellectual Property rights.

Prime Minister David Cameron has lent his backing to the Parliamentary music competition which is also backed by the music industry and a huge roster of music legends from Alice Cooper to the Bee Gees Robin Gibb.

The Prime Minister confirmed that he would be taking part in the competition by nominating musicians and bands from his Witney constituency and talked of his love of music saying: 'I've always loved Whisky in the Jar, by Thin Lizzy, as a song with one of the best guitar riffs in the history of rock music. I have it on iTunes or play it when needing a lift. ' The Prime Minister was talking after receiving an application from the band Reaper in the Under 18 category.

The competition sees MPs nominate the best live musicians and music venue from their constituencies. The competition this year invites live music venues, solo artists, bands and under-18s to write to their MPs and enter themselves into RTH 2012.

The competition is backed by both Ministers, cross party MPs, industry professionals and bodies – and rock stars, including Alice Cooper, Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, Bee Gees Robin Gibb, Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus, Whitesnake's Bernie Marsden, Bullet For My Valentine's Matt Tuck, Anthrax's Rob Caggiano, Busted and Fightstar’s Charlie Simpson, Gallows’ Laurent Bernard, Don Broco’s Rob Damiani and Yes’ Rick Wakeman who are all official Patrons.

A whole range of prizes are on offer, ranging from Gibson guitars to performing at the Houses of Parliament. Find out more here.

To enter, send your application form to your local MP by 16 March 2012. All the information you need can be found at the Rock The House website, www.rockthehouse2012.com

Founder, Mike Weatherley MP, said: 'The competition is so important in getting legislators to connect with a creative demographic that they sometimes do not engage with. Rock the House hopes to increase political awareness of IP issues and ensure that the UK remains a world-leading creative economy. It is a huge privilege to have created a forum for musicians, music industry professionals and Parliamentarians to add to the debate and discuss these crucial issues to pave the way forward. I am delighted that the Prime Minister will be taking part by entering a nomination'
