BBC 6 Music is to broadcast a ‘previously unheard’ David Bowie promotional show for his 1973 album Pin Ups.

The 15 minute show was produced in 1973 as a promo tool to market the star’s album of cover versions but was never aired.

Produced by Bowie and Ken Scott, the man behind the studio dials for classic albums such as Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane, the recording features five tracks from Pin Ups.

The recording includes versions of The Pretty Things’ Rosalyn, Them’s Here Comes the Night, The Yardbirds’ I Wish You Would, The Merseys’ Sorrow and The Who’s I Can’t Explain plus thoughts from Bowie on London’s music scene.

James Stirling, editor at 6 Music, said: ‘This exclusive is a fantastic coup for 6 Music. As a network showcasing music of alternative spirit, David Bowie is at our core, and it’s fantastic that our listeners will have the opportunity to hear this radio show for the first time ever.’

Shaun Keaveny, 6 Music presenter, added: ‘It’s beyond exciting for 6 Music to be showcasing the first-ever airing of this historic recording, in a year that has been all about the Bowie comeback.’

The unheard show will be broadcast today (23 October) and see the station celebrate the cover version by asking listeners to vote for their favourite.
