PPL, the collecting society for performers and record labels, has announced that Robin Firman and Horace Trubridge have been elected to its Performer Board.

They were appointed at PPL’s Annual Performer Meeting, which took place in London yesterday (Tuesday).

The positions were previously held by Christine Payne, general secretary of Equity, and also Trubridge, general secretary of the Musicians Union, who has now been re-elected.

The meeting, which took place at Maida Vale Studios, included an address by PPL chairman John Smith, and reports from chief executive Peter Leathem.

PPL also released its Annual Performer Review, looking back over the previous financial year.

Key highlights from 2017 included PPL’s overall revenue reaching £218.8m (up three percent on 2016) and net distributable revenue growing to £180.5m (a rise of one percent on 2016).

A record total of nearly 90,000 performers and 9,000 recording rightsholders received a payment.

Leathem said: ‘2017 was another record breaking year for PPL. I would like to thank the Performer Board and main PPL Board for their ongoing commitment, dedication and support.

‘In particular, my thanks go to Christine Payne, as an outgoing performer director, for her valuable contribution over the years. I would also like to thank the other candidates who stood in the election, and extend my congratulations and welcome to Robin Firman as a newly-elected performer director. I look forward to working closely with Robin, together with Horace Trubridge in his new capacity as an elected performer director.’
