The College Historical Society (CHS) of Trinity College Dublin has awarded Patrick Wolf with its prestigious Burke Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Discourse through the Arts.

The singer-songwriter – currently working on his seventh studio album as well as his first poetry book – will be presented with the award on 11 December at the college.

He has also announced two shows in celebration, which will be his only live performances this year.

Wolf described his 'pride' at receiving the award, saying: 'For my work to be acknowledged in this way is a true honour, and the fact that I’ll be receiving a medal once awarded to WB Yeats is a dream.'

Grace Conway of the CHS said of the decision to award him: 'We admire not only his extraordinary creative talent; but also his music is as diverse as it is beautiful, as it pushes boundaries and refuses to be tied down to just one genre.

'Mr. Wolf has consistently impressed us with levels of creativity and innovation which we believe have contributed to revolutionizing music, in both how it is both created and performed.

'Mr. Wolf has made a powerful difference to the lives of many people by encouraging and highlighting the fundamental importance of philanthropy and is one of the most original and innovative creative performers of our time,' she said.

Known as 'The Hist', the CHS is one of the oldest societies in the world, founded by Edmund Burke in 1770. Artists including Salman Rushdie, Patti Smith and Tracey Emin have previously received the award.
