Norma Winstone MBE, Laura Jurd and Engines Orchestra were among the winners at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
The winners were announced last night (10 March) at the eleventh awards at Terrace Pavillion at the House of Commons.
Norma took the prize for jazz vocalist of the year while Laura received the gong for best instrumentalist.
Fran Nevrkla OBE, PPL chairman, said: ‘We at PPL are exceptionally proud and honoured to have been able to support and sponsor the special Parliamentary Jazz Awards since their inception in 2005.
‘On this special tenth anniversary, I would like to extend my personal thanks and appreciation to Michael Connarty MP and to Lord Colwyn for doing such a fantastic job in co-chairing and running the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group as well as my thanks to Bob Blizzard.’
This year’s event, sponsored by music licensing company PPL, was presented by Moira Stewart with the likes of Jamie Cullum and former Deputy Prime Minister Lord Prescott presenting prizes. The awards are voted for via the Jazz Services website, then a shortlist is voted for by an expert panel.
