British dance music heroes Orbital have announced they are to hang up their iconic torch glasses for the final time after 25 years at the forefront of electronic music.
Brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll are credited as dance music pioneers with classic hits such as Chime and Belfast as well as legendary shows at Glastonbury and Brixton Academy all creating the template for rave culture.
The duo also received a PRS for Music Heritage Award last year at the Garage venue in London, the site of their first ever live gig.
Paul said: ‘We’ve had our ups and downs, and it’s not always been easy, but I’ve loved my time with Orbital. It’s been brilliant that we’ve been able to take our music to so many places, from local clubs to headlining Glastonbury to playing massive events across America, Australia, Japan … It’s been fantastic.
‘But nothing lasts forever and it's time to stop. Since finishing the soundtrack with Flood and PJ Harvey for the BBC One television show Peaky Blinders, I’ve now got my own new project, 8:58 which I'm really excited about.’
Phil added: 'I am really enjoying playing a mixture of my own exclusive Orbital remixes mixed with some great new dancefloor tracks. I have also been discovering so much talent along the way and look forward to potential collaborations.'
Paul’s new musical vehicle will see him performing a mixture of Orbital classics and new material. Phil will be concentrating on a DJ career which has seen him already play at some of the biggest clubs across the globe.
