Inspired by the Stars: Encore announces £500 prize for young composers
Deadline is Monday 13 June 2011.
Composers aged 25 and under are invited to write a piano miniature inspired by Robert Saxton’s A Yardstick to the Stars – one of the works selected for the Encore scheme. The winning piece will be performed at this year’s Cheltenham Festival by Huw Watkins on Thursday 30 June, alongside a performance of A Yardstick to the Stars. This concert will be broadcast at a later date by BBC Radio 3. Entries should be sent to the Royal Philharmonic Society. Robert Saxton and Huw Watkins will judge the competition.

Glyndebourne Young Composer
Closing date for applications is 17 June, 2011.
Glyndebourne is currently looking for an emerging composer (under 30 years-old as of 1 September 2011) for an initial tenure of two years, starting in the autumn of 2011 with an option for a further year. This is a part-time residency and is only open to composers who currently have the right to work and reside in the UK. The potential young composer will have a post-graduate degree level qualification in composition or equivalent professional experience, and should have evidence of engagement with opera, theatre, or multimedia work, of writing for the voice, and of practical skills as a pianist and/or vocalist/instrumentalist capable of improvising.

Coups De Vents International Composition Competition for Symphonic Band
Deadline is July 30 2011 - all works must be submitted by this date.
This competition is open to participants of all nations and ages. The 1st prize wins 8,000 Euros; 4,000 Euros for 2nd place and 2,000 Euros for 3rd place.
