Acclaimed Ninja Tune artist Ash Koosha has spoken out about US president Donald Trump’s recent 90-day ban on people entering the country from seven Muslim countries.
The Iranian-born electronic producer, who now resides in London and is directly affected by the situation, claimed Trump’s move to bar people born in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Libya from the US would ‘threaten global progress’.
Koosha said in a statement yesterday (Monday): ‘No one chooses to be exiled and no one chooses to be born in one place or another and it is in no one’s interest to ban global progress, something that many people from different nationalities are contributing to daily and they are doing it all for the future of humanity.
‘The global progress, unfortunately is being threatened by executive orders of Donald Trump in an unjust entry ban on refugees. A ban that also affects scholars, students, family members, artists and the mere tourists with no intention of settling in the USA.’
Later he added: ‘Donald Trump came to power claiming that he’ll make America great again. But this seems impossible without the contribution from many, many people of whom I am only one.’
Having been jailed for his musical work in Iran, Koosha relocated to London in the late noughties and formed electronic/indie outfit Take It Easy Hospital with Negar Shaghaghi.
His latest album I AKA I, was released last year to critical acclaim, gaining support from Pitchfork, The Wire, XLR8R and Resident Advisor and Rolling Stone among others.
