Internationally renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti has been awarded the Sir Charles Groves Prize 2014.
The musician received the accolade for her commitment to music education programmes such as Sistema Scotland and the BBC’s new Ten Pieces project.
Making Music executive director Barbara Eifler presented Nicola with the prize after her appearance at the Cheltenham Music Festival on Sunday 6 July.
Nicola said: ‘I'm thrilled to have been give this prize by Making Music, which provides such invaluable support to the UK's amateur music ensembles.
'Creativity and music in our lives is more needed and more cherished than ever, and Making Music's members are proof of this. It is an honour to be recognised in this way.’
Barbara added:‘Making Music is delighted to be recognising Nicola Benedetti’s exceptional commitment to the next generation of musicians with our prestigious Sir Charles Groves Prize. Like Nicola, the amateur music groups we represent are passionate about music making being accessible to all, so Nicola was a natural choice as this year’s winner.’

Past recipients include Sir Colin Davies, Gareth Malone and the Glastonbury Festival of Performing Arts.
