UK record labels association, The BPI, and the Entertainment Retailers’ Association (ERA) have announced details of their next joint Insight Session which will explore the impact of smart speakers and virtual assistants on music consumption.

Everybody’s Talkin’ takes place on 20 March at the BPI in London and will feature presentations by Amazon and Futuresource, as well as a panel discussion with representatives from 7digital and The Orchard.

Curated by Music Ally and hosted by its Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Paul Brindley, the event will consider, 'how people are discovering and playing music on smart speakers, and what this is likely to mean for labels and streaming platforms.'

It will also explore, 'how smart speakers and virtual assistants may impact music consumption and encourage more mainstream music consumers, as well as, 'how the technology can help shape marketing campaigns in future.'

Since Amazon’s Echo launched in 2014, voice controlled smart speakers have become the next 'must-have gadget'. Global technology market analyst firm Canalys have forecasted 70 percent year-on-year growth, with shipments reaching over 56 million units this year.
