Rise of the Super Furry Animals, a new biography by Ric Rawlins, is to be published telling the story of the infamous Welsh pop band.

The band originally started out as an electronic collective playing raves around Europe before evolving into an experimental rock group in 1993.

They went on to enjoy fame during the Brit pop years after signing to Creation Records and scoring some chart success.

The biography charts their ascent to fame and features illustrations from long time collaborator and illustrator Pete Fowler.

Scott Pack, Friday Project publisher, said: ‘This is an amazing story with an equally amazing cast and some cracking music.

‘Ric has really captured the energy and humour of the band as well as their passion for the Welsh language and culture. Far from being a traditional music biography, this is an anarchic ride through their career and I think fans will love it.’

Author Ric Rawlins worked as a music journalist for several years in London, where he produced the ‘world's first online music festival’ for Artrocker and did live reviews for the Evening Standard.
