New Order frontman and songwriter Bernard Sumner is to publish his autobiography in September.

The book - entitled Chapter and Verse [New Order, Joy Division and Me] - will be available from 25 September via Bantam Press.

According to the publishers, the work ‘includes a vivid and illuminating account of Bernard’s Salford childhood, the early days of Joy Division, the band’s enormous critical and popular success, and the subsequent tragic death of Ian Curtis’.

‘Sometimes moving, often hilarious and occasionally completely out of control, this is a tale populated by some of the most colourful and creative characters in music history, such as Ian Curtis, Tony Wilson, Rob Gretton and Martin Hannett.’

The band are currently on tour in the US with reports that they are currently working on a new album with a potential release date some time in 2015.

Joy Division co-founder and New Order bassist Peter Hook has already written two memoirs.

In his 2009 book, How Not To Run A Club, he explored the legendary Manchester venue Hacienda and in last year’s account, Unknown Pleasures, he discussed Joy Division.
