New Order and the Happy Mondays are among the artists to feature in St Anthony: An ode to Anthony H. Wilson, a new single paying tribute to Factory Records’ impresario Tony Wilson.
The song was written by Mancunian poet Mike Garry and composer Joe Duddell using New Order’s Your Silent Face as a foundation for the track.
Skinny Dog Records will release the song on 14 August complete with artwork by Peter Saville and a remix by Andrew Weatherall.
Tony Wilson launched Factory Records in 1978 and he went on establish the label by signing the likes of Joy Divison, New Order, and the Happy Mondays.
After a long struggle with cancer, he died in 2007 in Manchester’s Christie Cancer Hospital. All profits from the single will go to the Christie Charitable Fund.
The accompanying video, made by Soup Collective filmed at the Sharp Project, features a collection of close friends and collaborators including Bernard, Gillian and Stephen from New Order, Christopher Eccleston, Iggy Pop and Peter Saville.
