PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music Biennial will feature in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games cultural programme and festival.

The initiative will feature alongside 47 other projects during the event.

The New Music Biennial is a UK-wide commissioning programme which will feature 20 new pieces of music by UK-based composers.

Participating composers include Matthew Herbert who will tell the stories of twenty unique pianos from around the world. David Sawer, with Onyx Brass, will create music to be performed across Britain's historic bandstands, outdoor festivals and public spaces.

Vanessa Reed, executive director of PRS for Music Foundation, said: ‘I’m delighted that our New Music Biennial will contribute to the wide reaching cultural programme of Glasgow 2014’s Commonwealth Games.

‘The UK is home to exceptional composers, songwriters and musicians who are creating some of the most original and distinctive music in the world. Glasgow’s international celebrations in 2014 provide a fantastic opportunity to present a snapshot of this talent to a big audience in the UK and beyond.’

These commissions will be brought together in twin festival showcases presented by Southbank Centre in London (4-6 July 2014) and Glasgow UNESCO City of Music and Glasgow Life during the last weekend of the Commonwealth Games (2-3 Aug 2014).

A dedicated New Music Biennial website - www.newmusicbiennial.com - has just been launched for people to find out more about the composers, commissions, organisations and ensembles taking part in the project.
