Cheltenham Music Festival, Wild Plum Arts and PRS for Music have teamed up to present a development and commissioning opportunity for female composers and those who identify as women.
The Wild Plum Songbook will offer six composers the chance to attend a two-day workshop in London and have their work commissioned for Cheltenham Music Festival’s COMPOSIUM.
The workshop takes place in London on 8 and 9 March 2019 and provides professional development sessions with industry experts.
Composers will hear their pieces for mezzo-soprano and piano performed in the workshop by Rachael Lloyd and Lana Bode. They will also receive an audiovisual recording of the performance for their own personal use.
Wild Plum Arts and Cheltenham Music Festival will commission one of the works from the workshop for further development, to be premiered during COMPOSIUM.
The COMPOSIUM conference takes place on 10 July 2019 and brings together composers with publishers and music industry leaders and influencers.
The commissioned work will be three to four minutes and the composer will receive a commission fee of £1,000 plus UK travel and accommodation to attend the premiere.
Any texts used for the workshop or the commissioned work must be in the public domain or used with the permission of the copyright owner.
Interested music-makers should apply by 9am on 19 November and include a Dropbox link to two contrasting notated examples of their work.
This opportunity is open to PRS for Music members and individuals who are not affiliated with any performing right organisation.
Successful composers will be selected by a panel comprising composers Joanna Lee and Errollyn Wallen, plus Lucy Schaufer and Christopher Gillet (Wild Plum Arts), and Alison Balsom (Cheltenham Music Festival).
