Ty Cerdd, an organisation promoting the music of Wales, has launched a new programme of opportunities for composers and sound artists working in Wales.
Following awards from Arts Council of Wales and PRS Foundation, it is running a new season of its CoDI initiative, building on the success of the first year.
CoDI 2019/20 offers three composer pathways; writing for ensembles and electronics, composing with text and writing for movement.
Up to five composers and sound artists from a broad stylistic range will be recruited for the strands and will work in the Hijinx Academies which train professional learning-disabled actors in Aberystwyth, Cardiff, Carmarthen and Prestatyn.
Lead composer Tic Ashfield will provide mentoring in writing for movement, theatre and dance. Support in working in a learning-disabled training setting will come from local choreographers and course leaders.
The selected artists will be resident in their local academy for one afternoon per week, creating a work for actors to perform with in their end-of-term sharing – and potentially in the organisation’s annual showcase. They will receive a fee for participating in the initiative.
Composers and sound artists are encouraged to apply to take part in one, two or three of the strands. The closing date for applications is 4pm on 4 July 2019.
