Mute Records has teamed up with book publisher Thames & Hudson to produce an image-led hardback marking the label’s 40th anniversary in 2018.

Mute: A Visual Document: From 1978 - Tomorrow from is packed with artwork and photography – much of it previously unseen – from the Mute archives and from founder Daniel Miller’s own collection.

It includes images and video stills from legendary photographers, conceptual artworks, rare ephemera and equipment, alongside comprehensive discographies and a family tree of Mute artists.

Miller, who has curated materials for the book, provides an extensive introduction and commentary.

Also included are anecdotal and photographic contributions from key figures in the label’s story over the last four decades, including Moby, Alison Goldfrapp, Anton Corbijn, Bleddyn Butcher, Jon Spencer, Barry Adamson, Ivan Novak (Laibach) and Angus Andrew (Liars).

The volume, authored by writer and musician Terry Burrows and Miller, is published on 16 November. Pre-order here.
