The Musicians’ Union (MU) has launched The Musician Behind the Moment, a new campaign 'to show the true value of the UK’s orchestral musicians.'

The organisation, which represents over 30,000 musicians working in all sectors of the music business, is sharing the stories of four of its members to showcase the breadth of work taken on by orchestral players.

From realising a childhood dream of performing on the Star Wars soundtrack, to witnessing a hard of hearing child experience music for the first time through sound vibrations, the stories shared help illustrate the value of orchestral players, and 'make the case for proper and sustained arts funding'.

The MU is also encouraging people to share their own poignant experiences, posting on its website: 'Your moment could be anything – performing at a family do, participating in a local or national event, or working on a soundtrack. It could be bringing music to hospitals, schools, care homes or other public services.

'Whatever your moment, share it and help us reveal the real musicians behind the moments people remember forever.'
