Matthew Gray and the Awful Truth and Emily ‘String’ Street are among the musicians helping launch an International craft show at Manchester Craft & Design Centre (MCDC).

The musicians will perform at the opening of the Forming Words on Saturday 13 July, an exhibition of contemporary craft objects inspired by a piece of poetry or song lyric.

Fellow Mancunian acts Songs for Walter and The Bear Around Your Neck will also be performing as part of the event.

Kate Day, MCDC’s director, said: ‘We’re delighted that these four bands are helping us to promote this worthwhile exhibition and I’m sure having them perform on the day will create an amazing creative atmosphere.

‘We’re really thrilled to be the first tour venue for this exciting international show. The work featured is both intricate and arresting, from Cecilia Levy’s exquisite paper Daily Thistles to Matt Raw’s extruded clay letters. We’re looking forward to a summer season of word-based inspiration, discussion and entertainment.’

All of the acts are performing at the event for free to support their artistic community.
