Rock band Muse are rumoured to be in talks to take over the running of their hometown’s council for one day, news reports have claimed.

The band, who are from Teignmouth in Devon, have been discussing the opportunity with the local authorities as part of an initiative to encourage interest in politics among young residents.

Jeremy Christophers, who is the leader of Teignbridge District Council, said: ‘We're still in talks to get things sorted. It's vital for the council to engage with the younger generation.

He argued that the band’s latest album deals with many of the same issues that are facing politicians.

‘Muse have been busy on tour promoting their album The 2nd Law. The album has songs about global warming and sustainable living, which are important issues.’

The band, which is led by singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy, are on tour throughout the rest of the year including shows in Australia and the US.
