Mr Rootsy, an X-Factor contestant and Official Mixtape Award (OMA) nominee, is to tour the UK’s schools as Britain’s Personal Best music ambassador.

The rapper, aka London Roots who was an X-Factor contestant in 2012, will tour the UK as part of the Big Lottery funded project.

He will begin the initiative during the Britain’s Personal Best weekend 4 – 6 October.

London's visits to schools will include performances, providing simple music tuition, performance tips and communal singing. The initiative is aimed at encouraging more young people to take up music.

He said: ‘For me, it’s about bringing together talented artists to share and experience the best home-grown talent Britain has to offer, and I hope that every single person across the country will be inspired to follow their dreams and achieve their own personal best.

‘It’s very important to challenge yourself in different areas in life to make sure you are always getting as much as possible out of your potential.’

Other celebrities will also be taking part in Britain’s Personal Best weekend. Poet Musa Okwonga will overcome his fear of singing in public by composing and performing his own song.

Mr Rootsy is planning to release his acoustic album and another mixtape in September 2013.
