The Music Producers Guild (MPG) has announced its support for the Fair Digital Deals Declaration.
More than 700 independent record labels signed up to the declaration calling on greater transparency surrounding the distribution of digital revenues.
The move follows a recent dispute between the independent label community and YouTube over licensing terms for a new music streaming service.
Mick Glossop, MPG executive board member, said: ‘The music industry has a long history of unfairly exploiting the work of artists without whose creativity the industry would simply not exist.
‘The Fair Digital Deals Declaration is a welcome initiative, which seeks to address those injustices by promoting transparency and accountability.’
At a recent MPG Q-Time event, YouTube’s owner Google was accused of being a bullyboy in its dealings with the independent label community. Click here for the full story.
