This year, a total of 13 music publishers stood for seven board places. David Kassner (Kassner Associated Publishers) and Crispin Evans (Cote Basque) secured the final slots.

The results were announced at the MPA Annual General Meeting (AGM) last month, which was lead by chairman Chris Butler and outgoing chief executive Stephen Navin.

Butler used his address to reflect on the last 12 months, saying: ‘Since our last AGM we have launched our printed music licensing scheme for schools, we have contributed to a recovery plan for MCPS and, after seven years with Stephen at the helm, we are now looking for a new chief executive.’

He went on to illustrate how the MPA would continue to support the UK music publishing industry, highlighting the need for effective running of the MPA, a high level of engagement with members and continued participation in the Global Repertoire Database.

He also reported on MCPS, providing details on its new structure and the way it will work for members. He summarised the deal, saying: ‘The negotiations were tough, but we have come out with an equitable solution and I am pleased we have retained ownership and look forward to seeing MCPS return to profitability.’

Navin then spoke about the role of publishers in the context of collective rights management and the changing role of the MPA chief executive. He also said his final farewells, thanking the MPA staff and board for their hard work.
