The ceremony was broadcast live on BBC ALBA for the first time and gathered stars of the Scottish music scene to celebrate the very best in traditional Scottish talent.
Along with Vass (PRS for Music-sponsored Composer of the Year), Fowlis (Trad Music in the Media) and McKenna (Scots Singer of the Year), Duncan Chisholm (Instrumentalist of the Year) and Niteworks (Up and Coming Artist of the Year) were also honoured.
Meanwhile, Edinburgh’s Scots Fiddle Festival was named Event of the Year while quirky Inverness venue Bogbain Farm scooped the prize for Venue of the Year.
The evening was concluded with performances from the country’s Trad music stars including Treacherous Orchestra, Karine Polwart, Inveraray and District Pipe Band and Gordon Duncan Experience. Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross also performed, paying a special tribute to the late songwriter Michael Marra, who passed away last month.
Event Founder and Hands Up for Trad Creative Director Simon Thoumire said: ‘We’re so pleased that the Scots Trad Music Awards has continued to grow over the last ten years.
‘Huge congratulations to all winners and nominees. It’s been a fantastic year for Trad music - we’ve seen artists like Julie Fowlis come to prominence after her music was featured in Disney Pixar’s Brave this year. We can only hope that successes like these will continue for another ten years.’
